My House: Backyard Bliss, pt 2

Check out my new favourite spot in the house, our new fancified deck!

We found the umbrella for FREE courtesy of Mike's parent's neigbours. They were moving and had one of those glorious "free stuff" signs on their driveway - I just couldn't say no to this baby. It's been sitting around Mike's parent's house since last summer (thank yoooou) till we found furniture and got things together this year. It matches perfectly, love it when that happens.

And of course, we can't forget Morton. He actually keeps an eye on things from the other side of the deck along with our swing and rain barrel. Keep up the good work, Mort.

On the to-do list (most likely next summer) would be to paint the deck. I'm not sure what the previous owners were thinking when they picked this um, orange(?) colour. Maybe they were going for a "wood coloured" look, I don't know. Either way, we'll probably paint it a grey/charcoal colour of some sort next year to tie in better with the house. Husband also has some great plans for a privacy screen along the side. But for now, I am loving it as is and hoping to spend lots of time out here.

What do you think?

  21. I definitely screwed up in picking out our deck color (we restained it last summer). It's not nearly as orange as yours...but more of a "washed out" version....I hate it...but not worth resanding and doing again at this time :(

  31. Fabulous! It looks so comfy and inviting! It completely puts my deck (with it's ever-growing number of dying potted plants) to shame!

  33. LOVE MORT! I have a Morton, except his name is Bob. And Bob lives indoors. Bob is a bit spoiled. However, Bob may be jealous Mort gets to be outside. Perhaps an exchange program should be set up for Bob and Mort?

  34. Haha, Sarah, I'm sure Morton would love the big city life! He's probably getting eaten alive by mosquitoes out there anyway ;)

  35. A la Amelia, we should sent Bob and Mort on some adventures. We'll have to think about this one.
