Cute (almost) Curls

I think someone's going to have her mama's "textured" hair...

AliceHair

I swear it's got a mind of it's own. I promise to teach you how to style it, honey :)

I've definitely had a love hate relationship with my curly hair. Current product of choice: Bumble and Bumble's Curl Conscious Defining Cream. Any other curly haired gals out there? What's your secret?

  2. I do not have that problem. I kind of can't curl it to save my life. I try and it falls about 3.4 minutes later. Haha. Yet, people with body/texture/volume/curls can straighten it...

    Never happy, huh? ;)

Your sweet baby girl is precious!!!! The hair is fabulous. ;)

  4. Oooh, so cute Christine! I have a love-hate relationship with my naturally curly hair. I've yet to find a product that I just loooooove (I now want to try this B&B cream you mentioned above), but I've found that washing my hair only every 3-4 days produces the best results. This sounds gross, I know, but my hair doesn't get oily and my best hair days are long after it's been washed (my worst being the first day or two after it's been washed). Anyways....so excited to see another adorable photo of your beautiful baby. xo

    1. Don't worry, I only wash my hair every 3 days too, Amy! We curly haired gals need those natural oils!! You should try the bumble and bumble stuff, it's no miracle product but if I use it just so along with my other meticulous steps, it works pretty great. I also use a pomade type product once it's dry to tame the frizzies a bit.

  6. OMG I could talk about curly hair till the cows come home. whatever that means.

Deva Curl products are amazing. Shampoo and Conditioner without sulfates, so your hair isn't stripped of it's natural oils, and the "foaming" you get from regular shampoos doesn't happen, so your hair curls better. (You don't actually need that to clean your hair!)

I also use Kinky-Curly Curling Custard, and it's really good.

I don't straighten my hair anymore, I only wear it curly, and I love it. I feel more me!

My friend, Kat, just told me about sulphates! I've got some great Kevin Murphy shampoo/conditioner. I'll have to check ou that Kinky-Curly stuff. Thanks!

I know what you mean, my head always feels so small when I don't have curly hair! haha.

  7. Yay curls!!

I'm so happy she's getting some texture!

I've been using oil lately. And washing it every second day. Apply the oil on the second day before bed and a wee bit in the morning. They look much softer than using a curl balm, I find.

  9. I have super tight curls but started out with straight hair as a kid. My hair got curlier and curlier until I about 8. Even though it's super curly, it's not very thick so it's pretty easy to straighten and it mid-back length when straight. I've used sooo many different products, but for the last few years I have been loving Samy Curl Creme. It's only sold at Shopper's Drug Mart and has just been DISCONTINUED!!! I literally went to about 10 stores and bought up everything they had on stock lol I find cremes/creams are definitely the way to go for hold and soft curls!!

    1. You're lucky it's a quick straighten too, best of both worlds!! Don't you hate it when they disccontinue stuff, glad you managed to stockpile:)

  10. I seem to recall Alice's hair sticking up on more than one occasion. I don't remember the last time I let my hair curl 'naturally', does curling with the flat iron count? I will have to bring back the natural curls for another go.

    1. Um, ya, it's pretty much sticking up allll the time. Ya, you need to give those curls another chance. Flat iron curl does not count, I want to see those natural curls!

  11. I have curly hair, and the only thing that has really worked well for me (that doesn't cost a bundle) is LA Looks' gel in the strong hold. It's blue and thick, but it's cheap and it works well to keep my hair from getting frizzy. You have to be careful not to use too much, though, or it gives you the crispy, too-wet look. :) I do love Bumble & Bumble, though -- I just can't justify paying so much for it! I'd love to find a generic for it.

    1. Ya, I found that with gel too, sometimes it looks a bit "crispy". Glad you've found the perfect recipe that works for ya! I know, the bumble and bumble is a bit pricey. It does go a long way though and now that I only wash my hair every three days it lasts forever!

  12. my friend has the most beautiful, curly head of hair I've ever seen and she swears by good old cheap, Dippity Doo from the drug store. It is the only thing that will tame her curls!

  14. been having the curl conversation with a few curly-headed friends lately. after some experimenting, we can all swear by argan oil (applied within three minutes of getting out of the shower), followed by either a medium hold mousse or the mixed chicks leave-in conditioner. one of my friends dilutes the mixed chick products and claims the same or better results. i've yet to try that. oh -- and none of us shampoo. i convinced several of them to give conditioning-only a go and they've all seen dramatic improvement to those beautiful curls! :)
