Practical Gifts For A New Mom

I always hate it when other bloggers feel the need to make excuses for their absence. Not because I don't love them and miss their lovely voices out here in internetland, but because I get it. Life gets in the way sometimes and that's ok. At least this is what I've been telling myself this last month (or two).

I've been a bit preoccupied growing a little human and raising a little toddler one while I'm at it. To say I'm tired is a bit of an understatement. I've been trying to take my own advice and let the blog take a backseat lately and it's been kinda nice. Inspiration will come again and, heck, I'm pretty sure I'm going to be tired for at least the next 18 years so I might as well roll with it ;)

With that said, I'm grateful I'm not the only one going through these changes of motherhood. I've been so blessed to have numerous friends become mamas lately and I couldn't be happier. It's a challenging time and I know moms and dads can use all the help they can get.

It's fun to gift cute baby stuff but I've been erring on the side of practical these days and made up a few of these 'new mama care packages'. Here's a peek inside and some inspiration for the next time you're looking for some gift ideas:

Gift for New Mom

1) Not pictured but first and foremost, dinner: Either make something yourself or pick up a frozen something. I brought along a ready to cook frozen meal from 'Simply Supper'. Always, always appreciated.

2) A little something for baby: This can be something really small like a book or even diapers. I'd purchased these minimocs for this little babe and couldn't wait to gift them.

3) snacks: preferably something that can be eaten one handed - granola bars, snap pea crisps, mini muffins, veggies, cut up fruit...

4) treats: Something for the sweet tooth is a must in my books. These 'crybaby' cookies are go-to family staple (see recipe here). Also welcomed: chocolate, candy, wine...

5) Something cozy and cute for mama: Because you are not feeling your greatest in post-partum recovery mode, I like to throw in a cute pair of new pyjama pants. Just make sure they're nice and stretchy!!

Wrap it up in a cute reusable tote and you're set! I already have a few of these things set for myself when this baby comes (hopefully any day now!!) What's your go-to new mama gift?

Hope you have a great weekend, happy Friday!
Christine

  2. Aww super thoughtful package! I love the PJs idea! And yes I get it too... it always annoys me when people apologize for not being around. Life is busy that's for sure! Take care!

    1. There's something about new pj's that makes me feel less grubby when I don't get dressed all day, haha.

  3. Ha! That super annoys me too when bloggers apologize, especially when they do it for like every post.

Now that I've had my own baby and have had friends bring me over food, I feel terrible for all the past friends I've visited when they've had babies and I did NOT bring them food! Seriously, food is where it's at! I had no idea how hard it can be to eat during the day when you are caring for a newborn ;)

    1. I know what you mean! The things you learn once you have a baby. Food is always a good gift, but especially when you have a newborn!

    1. Definitely, we get pretty good at doing things one-handed, don't we?

  8. LOL I dislike it when bloggers do that, too. I used to years ago then stopped because there will always be someone else busier than little ol' me & I doubt my readers have been hanging on with bated breath for my next post ;-)

What a cool new mom care package!! Those early days are so overwhelming & this is surely bound to bring a smile to any mom's face. Love that you do this. Hey why don't we live closer?!

  9. Seriously. Life is absolutely insane as a mommy. Especially a new mommy. These are great ideas, the comfy and cute something to wear is essential, as are sweet things to much on. I've been thinking of you...wondering if the newest babe has made his or her arrival yet! :)

  10. Such a great idea! I have so many friends having babies this summer and fall. This'll be perfect. And, while I'm not a mother myself, I have to say, I'd be up for every one of these gifts - even the moccasins (I'll just need a bigger size)! LOL.

    1. Ps. Love that we both talked about the slow blogging movement on Friday. We're 'samers'!

  11. One of the most thoughtful gifts out there! I would have loved some new pj's post baby and would have killed for some food. We didn't have one person bring us food at any point, not even at the hospital.

  12. Oh how smart you are - a great collection!
I'm not a mom myself but I like to give natural/organic products (because not everyone can afford to always buy them) of things that get used daily - diapers, diaper wipes, rash cream, lotion, shampoo etc
